Does this improve symmetry?
Yes it improves symmetry but takes time.
We view that the skull and skeleton remodel back to their genetic plan. Bones move and remodel, soft tissue stretches, etc.
Will this improve my profile?
Yes this process should improve the profile by stretching the soft tissue that is holding the jaw and the neck out of position.
As things stretch the profile should normalize, but takes time.
How does this compare to mewing and thumbpulling?
This is a terrific complement to both mewing and thumbpulling. Why?
Because both of those things also stretch the soft tissue and improve curve of spee, which in turn creates a small posterior open bite. If you then sleep without a mouthguard this small posterior open bite closes and curve of spee flattens, which regresses a lot of your progress.
If, on the other hand, you wear a mouthguard then no regression happens and your results keep compounding.
What age can I improve?
You can improve at any age. There are people doing this process that are in their 70's and beyond.
There might be some additional benefit to folks that are still growing (eg. puberty) as they will also set their natural growth on the correct path. But this is not necessary to realize major improvements with this process.
How fast will I see progress?
Each person varies a bit and so do not have some standardized velocity that we can predict. It depends on a number of factors like:
- How bad were you when you started?
- How aggressively do you do this process? Do you do the stretches and wear the appliance during the day as advised?
- What is your definition of 'progress'? Just aesthetic things or also functional ones?
In general we view that it is rare to be disciplined to this process and not observe at least some benefits during your initial month of doing it.
